In brief
Iran and the United Kingdom maintain diplomatic, economic, and historical interactions. Iran, which was called Persia by the West before 1935, has had political relations with England since the late Ilkhanate period (13th century) when King Edward I of England sent Geoffrey of Langley to the Ilkhanid court to seek an alliance. Until the early nineteenth century, Iran was a remote and legendary country for Britain, so much so that the European country never seriously established a diplomatic center, such as a consulate or embassy. By the middle of the nineteenth century, Iran grew in importance as a buffer state to the United Kingdom's dominion over India. In recent years, relations between Iran and the United Kingdom have been marked by hostility as the United Kingdom sanctioned Iran while Iran detained British citizens and conducted influence campaigns within the United Kingdom.
Both countries share common membership of the United Nations. Bilaterally the two countries have an Air Transport Agreement.

In context
Every figure in this section is a count, a rank or a percentile over vessels actually held in this registry — not over the world fleet, which is larger. Nothing here is estimated.
At 29,579 gross tons, Stena Impero is the 20,036th largest of the 84,014 vessels in this registry that report a tonnage. The median across that set is 5,994 GT, so this hull is about 4.9 times the typical vessel on record here. The largest measures 499,167 GT.
Among the 3,060 oil tankers held here, it ranks 1,225th by tonnage — larger than 59% of that group. Their median tonnage is 22,184 GT, and the largest tenth begin at 149,274 GT. The flag most often flown by this group is Panama (301 ships). The yard that appears most often against it is HD Hyundai Mipo, with 190 hulls on record.
United Kingdom is the country of registry for 2,394 vessels in this directory, of which Stena Impero is the 249th largest by tonnage. The most common class under that flag is vessels this registry holds no type classification for (1,835 ships), and the median vessel measures 2,515 GT. Browse every ship flagged United Kingdom.
Narrowing to both dimensions at once, this registry holds 19 oil tankers flying the United Kingdom flag, of which 15 are larger by tonnage.
Stena Impero was built in 2018, making it 8 years old. It is one of 1,246 hulls in this registry delivered that year, a cohort whose median tonnage is 18,960 GT; within it this ship is the 473rd largest. Across the whole of the 2010s the registry holds 20,111 vessels, median 23,456 GT. The median build year across the entire registry is 1995.
The registry attributes 305 vessels to CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering Company, with a median tonnage of 28,891 GT, delivered between 1974 and 2026. See the rest of that yard’s output.
At 183.0 m overall, Stena Impero is 4.0 m longer than the 179.0 m median for oil tankers on record.
IMO numbers are issued in broadly chronological blocks. Within 500 either side of 9797400 this registry holds 51 other vessels, whose median build year is 2017 and which range from 2015 to 2020. That places this hull’s registration in the same part of the series, consistent with its recorded build year of 2018.
Its IMO number, 9797400, carries its own check digit. The first six digits are weighted seven down to two and summed — 9×7 + 7×6 + 9×5 + 7×4 + 4×3 + 0×2 = 190 — and the last digit of that total, 0, must equal the seventh digit, 0. It does, so this number is well formed.

No ship class is recorded for this vessel, so these are not asserted to be sister ships — they are contemporaries from the same builder, shown because that is what the data supports.
