About MSC World Europa
MSC World Europa is a World-class cruise ship of MSC Cruises. LNG-powered, she was built by the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, and as of June 2024 is the world's eighth largest passenger ship and the largest cruise ship in the world that is not owned by Royal Caribbean International currently. MSC World Europa began public operations from 20 December 2022 in a 9-day roundtrip from Qatar after serving as a hotel ship in Doha during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. She became MSC's first World-class ship and will be joined by three sister ships in 2025, 2026, and 2027, respectively.

How MSC World Europa compares
Every figure in this section is a count, a rank or a percentile over vessels actually held in this registry — not over the world fleet, which is larger. Nothing here is estimated.
At 215,863 gross tons, MSC World Europa is the 94th largest of the 84,014 vessels in this registry that report a tonnage. The median across that set is 5,994 GT, so this hull is about 36 times the typical vessel on record here. The largest measures 499,167 GT.
Among the 58,086 vessels this registry holds no type classification for held here, it ranks 14th by tonnage — larger than 100% of that group. Their median tonnage is 5,358 GT, and the largest tenth begin at 54,309 GT. The flag most often flown by this group is Panama (5,698 ships). The yard that appears most often against it is HD Hyundai Mipo, with 615 hulls on record.
MSC World Europa was built in 2022, making it 4 years old. It is one of 158 hulls in this registry delivered that year, a cohort whose median tonnage is 25,795 GT; within it this ship is the 8th largest. Across the whole of the 2020s the registry holds 1,769 vessels, median 29,777 GT. The median build year across the entire registry is 1995.
The registry attributes 123 vessels to Chantiers de l'Atlantique, with a median tonnage of 63,786 GT, delivered between 1912 and 2026. See the rest of that yard’s output.
At 333.3 m overall, MSC World Europa is 218.3 m longer than the 115.0 m median for vessels this registry holds no type classification for on record, with a beam of 47.0 m.
IMO numbers are issued in broadly chronological blocks. Within 500 either side of 9837420 this registry holds 45 other vessels, whose median build year is 2019 and which range from 2017 to 2025. That places this hull’s registration in the same part of the series, consistent with its recorded build year of 2022.
Its IMO number, 9837420, carries its own check digit. The first six digits are weighted seven down to two and summed — 9×7 + 8×6 + 3×5 + 7×4 + 4×3 + 2×2 = 170 — and the last digit of that total, 0, must equal the seventh digit, 0. It does, so this number is well formed.
