In brief
Splendid is a 214.50-metre Ro-Pax cruise ferry owned and operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). Built in 1994 by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Marina di Carrara, Italy, she is the second vessel constructed for GNV and the sister ship to lead vessel Majestic. Originally completed at 188.15 metres, she was lengthened by 26 metres at Fincantieri's Palermo shipyard in 1996 to increase passenger and freight capacity. Powered by four Sulzer main diesel engines producing 25,920 kW, she operates key Tyrrhenian and Western Mediterranean routes connecting mainland Italy and France with Sicily, Sardinia, Tunisia, and Morocco.

In context
Every figure in this section is a count, a rank or a percentile over vessels actually held in this registry — not over the world fleet, which is larger. Nothing here is estimated.
At 39,139 gross tons, Splendid is the 14,261st largest of the 84,014 vessels in this registry that report a tonnage. The median across that set is 5,994 GT, so this hull is about 6.5 times the typical vessel on record here. The largest measures 499,167 GT.
Among the 58,086 vessels this registry holds no type classification for held here, it ranks 7,944th by tonnage — larger than 84% of that group. Their median tonnage is 5,358 GT, and the largest tenth begin at 54,309 GT. The flag most often flown by this group is Panama (5,698 ships). The yard that appears most often against it is HD Hyundai Mipo, with 615 hulls on record.
Italy is the country of registry for 918 vessels in this directory, of which Splendid is the 151st largest by tonnage. Narrowing to both dimensions at once, this registry holds 488 vessels this registry holds no type classification for flying the Italy flag, of which 62 are larger by tonnage.
Splendid was built in 1994, making it 32 years old. It is one of 1,047 hulls in this registry delivered that year, a cohort whose median tonnage is 5,680 GT; within it this ship is the 131st largest. Across the whole of the 1990s the registry holds 12,006 vessels, median 4,956 GT. The median build year across the entire registry is 1995.
The registry attributes 36 vessels to Nuovi Cantieri Apuania, with a median tonnage of 13,219 GT, delivered between 1964 and 2013. See the rest of that yard’s output.

IMO numbers are issued in broadly chronological blocks. Within 500 either side of 9015747 this registry holds 59 other vessels, whose median build year is 1992 and which range from 1990 to 2006. That places this hull’s registration in the same part of the series, consistent with its recorded build year of 1994.
Its IMO number, 9015747, carries its own check digit. The first six digits are weighted seven down to two and summed — 9×7 + 0×6 + 1×5 + 5×4 + 7×3 + 4×2 = 117 — and the last digit of that total, 7, must equal the seventh digit, 7. It does, so this number is well formed.
Same yard, same years
No ship class is recorded for this vessel, so these are not asserted to be sister ships — they are contemporaries from the same builder, shown because that is what the data supports.
