In context
Every figure in this section is a count, a rank or a percentile over vessels actually held in this registry — not over the world fleet, which is larger. Nothing here is estimated.
At 450 gross tons, HMS Shoreham is the 75,045th largest of the 84,014 vessels in this registry that report a tonnage. The median across that set is 5,994 GT, so this hull is about 13 times smaller than the typical vessel on record here. The largest measures 499,167 GT.
Among the 58,086 vessels this registry holds no type classification for held here, it ranks 42,474th by tonnage — larger than 15% of that group. Their median tonnage is 5,358 GT, and the largest tenth begin at 54,309 GT. The flag most often flown by this group is Panama (5,698 ships). The yard that appears most often against it is HD Hyundai Mipo, with 615 hulls on record.
United Kingdom is the country of registry for 2,394 vessels in this directory, of which HMS Shoreham is the 1,542nd largest by tonnage. The most common class under that flag is vessels this registry holds no type classification for (1,835 ships), and the median vessel measures 2,515 GT. Browse every ship flagged United Kingdom.
Narrowing to both dimensions at once, this registry holds 1,835 vessels this registry holds no type classification for flying the United Kingdom flag, of which 1,164 are larger by tonnage.
HMS Shoreham was built in 2002, making it 24 years old. It is one of 1,298 hulls in this registry delivered that year, a cohort whose median tonnage is 12,563 GT; within it this ship is the 1,137th largest. Across the whole of the 2000s the registry holds 18,605 vessels, median 9,957 GT. The median build year across the entire registry is 1995.
The registry attributes 23 vessels to VT Group, with a median tonnage of 625 GT, delivered between 1981 and 2007. See the rest of that yard’s output.
At 52.5 m overall, HMS Shoreham is 62.5 m shorter than the 115.0 m median for vessels this registry holds no type classification for on record, with a beam of 70.0 m and a draft of 11.0 m.
IMO numbers are issued in broadly chronological blocks. Within 500 either side of 4906812 this registry holds 31 other vessels, whose median build year is 1983 and which range from 1945 to 2008. That places this hull’s registration in the same part of the series, consistent with its recorded build year of 2002.
Its IMO number, 4906812, carries its own check digit. The first six digits are weighted seven down to two and summed — 4×7 + 9×6 + 0×5 + 6×4 + 8×3 + 1×2 = 132 — and the last digit of that total, 2, must equal the seventh digit, 2. It does, so this number is well formed.
