In brief
MV Armorique is a passenger and freight ferry built for Brittany Ferries by STX Europe in Finland at a cost of £81 million (€110 million). The vessel was delivered to Brittany Ferries on 26 January 2009, it was originally planned for her to be delivered in September 2008. Armorique is named after a national park in western Brittany. Armorique was also the name of a previous Brittany Ferries vessel purchased for service between Portsmouth and St Malo in 1975 and sold in 1993.
The vessel was designed and built specifically for the Plymouth-Roscoff route, as a replacement for the Pont L'Abbe. Her maiden voyage was due to be on 10 February 2009 at 15:00hrs, sailing from Roscoff to Plymouth. However, due to severe weather conditions, this crossing was cancelled, and she sailed to Plymouth without passengers. The overnight crossing from Plymouth on 10 February went ahead, making this her maiden voyage. Armorique sails under the French flag and is registered in Morlaix.

In context
Every figure in this section is a count, a rank or a percentile over vessels actually held in this registry — not over the world fleet, which is larger. Nothing here is estimated.
At 29,468 gross tons, Armorique is the 20,155th largest of the 84,014 vessels in this registry that report a tonnage. The median across that set is 5,994 GT, so this hull is about 4.9 times the typical vessel on record here. The largest measures 499,167 GT.
Among the 877 ro-ros held here, it ranks 105th by tonnage — larger than 87% of that group. Their median tonnage is 7,395 GT, and the largest tenth begin at 34,011 GT. The flag most often flown by this group is Italy (62 ships). The yard that appears most often against it is Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft, with 16 hulls on record.
France is the country of registry for 517 vessels in this directory, of which Armorique is the 78th largest by tonnage. The most common class under that flag is vessels this registry holds no type classification for (313 ships), and the median vessel measures 2,161 GT. Browse every ship flagged France.
Narrowing to both dimensions at once, this registry holds 23 ro-ros flying the France flag, of which 5 are larger by tonnage.
Armorique was built in 2009, making it 17 years old. It is one of 2,834 hulls in this registry delivered that year, a cohort whose median tonnage is 11,673 GT; within it this ship is the 939th largest. Across the whole of the 2000s the registry holds 18,605 vessels, median 9,957 GT. The median build year across the entire registry is 1995.
The registry attributes 37 vessels to STX Finland, with a median tonnage of 5,077 GT, delivered between 1956 and 2015. See the rest of that yard’s output.
At 165.0 m overall, Armorique is 40.0 m longer than the 125.0 m median for ro-ros on record, with a beam of 26.8 m and a draft of 6.5 m.
IMO numbers are issued in broadly chronological blocks. Within 500 either side of 9364980 this registry holds 64 other vessels, whose median build year is 2007 and which range from 2005 to 2018. That places this hull’s registration in the same part of the series, consistent with its recorded build year of 2009.
Its IMO number, 9364980, carries its own check digit. The first six digits are weighted seven down to two and summed — 9×7 + 3×6 + 6×5 + 4×4 + 9×3 + 8×2 = 170 — and the last digit of that total, 0, must equal the seventh digit, 0. It does, so this number is well formed.
