What Fosen Trafikklag is
Fosen Trafikklag ASA, briefly Fosen ASA, was a transport company based in Trondheim, Norway. It was the dominant operator of ferries in Sør-Trøndelag and a major bus operator in Fosen as well as Hitra and Frøya.
The company was created on 1 January 1958 as a merger between seven bus-, steamship- and ferry operators, most prominently Fosen Dampskipsselskap. At the onset Fosen Trafikklag had a fleet of 9 steamships, one ferry and twenty-four buses. Combined passenger and cargo ships were in steady deline until they were entirely phased out in 1973, when they were replaced by dedicated fast ferries. Meanwhile, road vehicle ferries became increasingly important. Skansen–Vanvikan had opened as the first in 1955, and by 1978, Fosen was operating nine routes. This had declined to four in 2008, mostly due to the construction of bridges and subsea tunnel.
